School Visits
Author Brittany Offers School Visits to Children of Varying Ages with Differentiated Activities
Large school assemblies and family literacy nights
Classic assembly: Storytime followed by fun, guided activities that celebrate Long Beach’s rich cultural diversity and help students connect the story to the community around them. Brittany will briefly discuss her inspiration to write this book before diving into storytime and activities. This can be 30 - 45 minutes depending on the school’s need.
“How does an idea become a book?” Assembly: A kid-friendly introduction to the writing and publishing process, including terms like draft, editor, illustrator, and storyboard, and a behind-the-scenes look at how a book goes from an idea to a finished story. Brittany will also read Leah’s Long Beach Adventures. ~60 minute presentation.
Family literacy nights: Family storytime and coloring or a craft for kids, followed by a facilitated discussion about their own family culture, with questions like:
Which holidays does your family celebrate?
What foods do you enjoy with your family?
What are some of your family’s traditions?
Smaller classroom storytimes
Classroom storytimes: Teachers can inquire directly to have Brittany read her book to children in their classrooms.

What are people saying about Brittany’s visits?
It was a delight having Brittany Hart Scholten come and read her book to our first-grade class! The class loved having her read and talk about the book, the book cover, and how it was illustrated. She was engaging and fun throughout the time she was with our class and had age-appropriate activities to go along with the story. We really enjoyed having her!

The author of Leah’s Long Beach Adventure came to my classroom to read to my students! I have a student who is in a wheelchair and when he saw that one of the characters in the story is in one too, his eyes lit up. He was engaged when Brittany was asking questions. The representation throughout the book is invaluable for all children.
