Hi! I’m Brittany, a boy mom and Long Beach resident. I have genuinely fallen in love with our extraordinary city. Exploring all that Long Beach has to offer with my family has inspired me to write a children’s book about it. My book aims to celebrate the beautiful diversity and cultural richness of this incredible city.  

A Little About My Background:

I was born and raised in the San Fernando Valley. With familial ties in Mexico and the US, I have spent my career celebrating diversity and cultures different from my own as a Spanish teacher, study abroad administrator, and community engagement specialist before I began exploring my love of writing. Now I work as freelance writer who contributes to LB908 and other publications. I also started a Substack Life in Long Beach last year. My family and I have lived in Long Beach for 6 years, and we love exploring the city together.

Why I Wrote This Book:

I’ve been dreaming about writing a children’s book for several years. My deep appreciation for the Long Beach community and the lessons it has taught my family and me inspired me to create a children’s book on a subject I truly care about. I intentionally choose characters who do not look like my family or me because I know that representation matters, and I wanted the children of Long Beach to see themselves in the pages of the book. There are already plenty of books with characters who look like my family. This city is full of diverse people and cultures that I wanted to highlight.

What I Hope This Book Will Do:

Inspire a love of Long Beach.
Be representative of Long Beach residents.
Encourage families to explore all that Long Beach has to offer.
Celebrate the rich cultures of Long Beach.
Showcase the wonderful places we have to visit in Long Beach.
Teach children about the beautiful diversity we have in Long Beach.
Promote literacy and cultural competency.
